David Cameron announces crackdown on strike action in the public sector
This article explains with teachers, council workers, health workers, firefighters and civil servants all demonstrating against austerity measures in the public sector this week, the Prime Minister has said “the “time had come for the introduction of a threshold in number of union members who need to take part in a strike ballot for it to be legal …I don’t think these strikes are right… I think people should turn up for work…I think the time has come for looking at setting thresholds in strike ballots… The [National Union of Teachers] strike ballot took place in 2012, based on a 27 per cent turnout”. The comments have certainly provoked a debate around whether strike action should be viewed as a sign of failure and/or letting vulnerable service users down.
