Revealed: The police forces most likely to Taser you
There seems to be an alarming link between rural communities (the top 3 near me – gulp!) and the use of the taser. Is it a rural phenomenon? Read on and see what you think:
The police forces which are most likely to use Tasers can be disclosed after new data showed the weapons were drawn, aimed or fired a record number of times in the last 12 months. Analysis of Home Office figures by The Telegraph showed continuing high usage of the electric stun guns by three forces whose Taser deployments have already been the subject of concern by a police watchdog.
Humberside had the highest usage of Tasers, 11 incidents per 100 officers, in the first six months of this year, followed by Lincolnshire and Staffordshire with 10 each. In the summer the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) said there was “no obvious explanation” for “some smaller forces having a proportionately much higher rate of Taser use”. The IPCC singled out the Humberside, Lincolnshire and Staffordshire forces and said it would do more work to examine the disparity.
