Suffolk Police want 20 special constables with horses
Suffolk Constabulary is targeting horse owners are in its latest recruitment drive – it plans to recruit 20 horse owners as special constables. This article tells us: The police wants the volunteer officers to use their own horses and local knowledge to patrol rural areas. Police and crime commissioner (PCC) Tim Passmore said it would reassure people and they could deal with crimes such as hare-coursing and fly-tipping: “The horses would be owned by the people we recruit and we’re looking at what support and allowances we could provide for them”. Suffolk Constabulary expects to make an announcement in the Autumn once funding has been found from their existing special constable budget. The move has already been welcomed by the CLA with Tim Woodward (regional manager) saying “It would be great to get more special constables into villages and rural towns.
